The Gujarat Hindu Society was established in 1965 with an aim to sustain the Hindu Religion and Indian Culture in this country. It was the enthusiasm and endurance of the Executive Committee that hearten the spirit in developing new modern centre with a place of worship. In 1996, the Executive Committee decided to build a new big beautiful traditional temple and centre.

The architecture, the installation of deities, the worship and the other details of the temples are guided by religious scriptures known as Agama Shastras and Shilpa Shastra.

The entrance is the courtyard of a mandir. The name is derived from the word 'cowgate' of a vedic village which then became a city gate. The monumental entrance to the mandir is now known as 'gopuram' (tower of the main entrance).
